“I JUST WANT YOU TO BE HAPPY” is an installation and film created by artist Ana Pastor.
The work of Ana Pastor highlights a cultural criticism to the duty of happiness as a form of violence in capitalist society, where the individual learns to be resilient to a system based on individualism and economic success.
Obedience to the rules is intimately linked to the duty to enjoy. Enjoyment is a container for various happy objects, which are directly related with the own happiness and that of others. Their multiplicity and our belief that we can choose between one happy object and another, creates an illusion of freedom.
